Active involvement as an artist began in 1996 with my retirement from college teaching as a professor of art education. I have always made art, but prior to my retirement as Professor Emeritus from Lehman College of the City University of New York, it was interspersed with writing in the field of art education. My teaching experience includes 25 years at Lehman College, maintaining a private art school for nine years when my children were very young and six years teaching art in Junior High school and then High School. As art educator, I have written numerous articles and the book Art for exceptional children.

Today was tropical day in NYC - with showers and sun - sometimes at the same time.
Art was everywhere:along the fence at PS 69 at 77th Street - the Jackson Heights Art Club held their annual art show . The club has existed since 1945. talented artist teach and share their passion and skills with children and adults.
Afzal, owner of Espresso 77, spread out a canvas and painting supplies and invited artists of every age to create the mural. Local artist Elliot Bassman helped out and encouraged many younger JH artists...

the google map was also created showcasing the STOREFRONTS along 37th Ave in Jackson Heights and the artists work featured there.

creating a street front art gallery

Recently I hooked up with Queens Council on the Arts and their art explosion this weekend June 11-June 13 "Queens Art Express" which is tapping into and promoting art, performance, food and festivals along the 7 train in Queens.

They were able to create the ArtXphone at 877-747-4278
you can hear all the activities just a train ride away in NYC
I was honored to have done some of the recordings and I describe the art institution in Flushing

I asked local artists to contribute work for the store fronts along 37th Ave in Jackson Heights. We are celebrating June in Jackson Heights which has so much to offer. The motto is "Experience the world in one neighborhood!" www.juneinjacksonheights.com

this is the most diverse community in the world- with over 140 languages spoken and restaurants with delicacies from around the globe! maybe you will come out and visit one day - tell them Celeste sent you!
