QMAD, Queens Media Arts Development, presents ITINERANT, a citywide festival for Contemporary Performance Art to be hosted at various venues in the five boroughs of New York City. ITINERANT 2012 focuses on live performative works that treat notions of intimacy, self-reflection, and introspection.

Hector Canonge and Camila Cañeque present the durational, site-specific performance and public intervention "Worlds Together, Worlds Apart"inspired by the transient nature of people, and the ephemeral relevance of historical figures. The performance evokes the complex relationship, influence, and dependence between the colonizer and the colonized, the lover and the enemy, the Old and New Worlds, the Americas and Europe, and the present with the past.

ITINERANT 2012 focuses on live performative works that treat notions of intimacy, self-reflection, and introspection. Artists working in Contemporary Performance Art were selected to participate from an open call that attracted more than 175 local, national and international submissions. Forty five artists will be featuring new and existing works that explore the program’s theme over a period of 5 weeks starting on March 30^th through May 5^th.

In addition, ITINERANT will present Public Performances at the new 37^th Road Pedestrian Plaza (between 74^th and 73^rd Streets) in Jackson Heights, Queens, every Friday, April 6th – May 4th, 3 – 6 PM,

and the closing event on Saturday, May 12th, 3 – 6 PM

featuring the public performances by Chloe Bass, John Cichon, Lizzie Scott, and Priscila Stadler on Saturday, May 12th, 3 – 6 PM.

I am accustomed to being uncomfortable and I really like it. Perhaps I am just a little disingenuous; I think that discomfort keeps me honest. Also, being uncomfortable seems like a difficult choice, and if I think something is difficult, that is was what I want to do. Where do all of these stressful choices lead me? I crave structure. Not to mention coffee.

I seek to explicate intellectual and emotional content through movement and imagery. I am interested in philosophy, history, mathematics and systems of power. I try to make dry topics lively but this does not mean I don’t indulge in the occasional formal exercise, abstract tango or series of portraits of buildings. I am interested in greater perspective but sometimes, small details create a telling narrative. I am rigorous in my study but loose in my application. I defy genre without meaning to. I want to do everything at once but can only do one thing at a time.

Stillspotting NYC Transhistoria by SO – IL For Transhistoria, the third edition of stillspotting nyc, the architects at Solid Objectives – Idenburg Liu (SO – IL) explore how one finds calm and inner peace in a bustling environment such as Jackson Heights. In two-hour self-guided tours starting from the Jackson Heights–Roosevelt Ave. station, Transhistoria visitors will encounter four of these personal transhistories, selected from a series of around six indoor and outdoor spaces that frame the special experiences of these stories of migration, displacement, and finding familiarity and identity in a new place. Hours are Saturdays and Sundays, April 14-15, 21-22, 28-29, and May 5-6, 11am-7pm with the last tour starting at 5pm. $10, $8 members, Child (12 & under): Free For tickets please click here or visit: stillspotting.guggenheim.org/visit/queens/ Visitors will receive a map, directions for a self-guided tour, and a wristband for access to four sites that they may choose from the six sites open daily. Through different projects, TINA has been studying the relationships between music, visual art, and the rhythms of organic cycles -- universal languages that connect us, transcending geography and time. While certain pieces visually examine musical structures and cultural traditions, others have been transcribed from music, or have had music transcribed from the images.

Sam Oppenheim has been photographing for 15 years, during which he received a B.A. at Columbia University in Archaeology & Comparative Religion, a M.A. in the Archaeology of Ancient India at UW-Madison, and a M.A. in Education at City College New York.

Sam is a self-taught photographer who shoots both film and digital. His talent has been shaped and practiced in over 30 countries on 6 continents. His inspiration comes from within, and his style is influenced by National Geographic magazine, Edward Weston, Ansel Adams, and Lynn Saville. After 5 years teaching in the Bronx, he now works as a freelance photographer, and for a new company helping restaurants manage online ordering at Let's Order Online. NANCY WILLIAMS: Nancy is a NYC School Teacher and has been exploring photography in her travels. This is Nancy's first showing and as a good friend of Novo's, she was inspired by the local artists displayed there each month and wanted to share some of her treasured images. Info	Deadline for Online Submissions: Saturday, February 12, 2011 (Midnight) Event Date: February 19, 2011 Hosted by Crossing Art Gallery QMAD, Queens Media Arts Development, invites artists to submit works for consideration for the first A-Lab Forum of 2011, MEKANIKA. The February forum will focus on the presentation of artists whose work deal with notions of machinery and its representation in visual arts. We are looking for submissions. INSTRUCTIONS & GUIDELINES: To be considered, submit sample work(s) via email to: alab.forum@gmail.com. Selected artists will present the digital images or videos submitted for the open call. Each participant will have up to 10 min for his/her presentation. Artists will be notified of their acceptance in the program by February 14, 2011.
