Shakespeare may have been the greatest rapper of them all!

Broadway playwright Arje Shaw (Jackson Rep, 167 Tongues) and Hip Hop artist Devon Glover have created this dynamic and accessible concert featuring Shakespeare's love sonnets set in song enhanced by Devon’s riffs on the themes. Music by Daniel Lynas with vocals by Devon Glover and Melissa Guttman.

Sam Oppenheim has been photographing for 15 years, during which he received a B.A. at Columbia University in Archaeology & Comparative Religion, a M.A. in the Archaeology of Ancient India at UW-Madison, and a M.A. in Education at City College New York.

Sam is a self-taught photographer who shoots both film and digital. His talent has been shaped and practiced in over 30 countries on 6 continents. His inspiration comes from within, and his style is influenced by National Geographic magazine, Edward Weston, Ansel Adams, and Lynn Saville. After 5 years teaching in the Bronx, he now works as a freelance photographer, and for a new company helping restaurants manage online ordering at Let's Order Online. NANCY WILLIAMS: Nancy is a NYC School Teacher and has been exploring photography in her travels. This is Nancy's first showing and as a good friend of Novo's, she was inspired by the local artists displayed there each month and wanted to share some of her treasured images. 	GARDEN SCHOOL PARK UPDATE: Despite lightning, thunder, sleet and snow, upwards of 150 people went to a meeting in Jackson Heights last night to support an 11th hour effort to turn an athletic field at the Garden School into an extension of Travers Park. The meeting followed a vote last week by the Board of Directors of the financially troubled Garden School to sell the field to a developer for construction of an apartment building. The next step appears to be a renewed effort to seek loans from community members and land trust organizations in the hope of helping the Garden School get past its immediate financial crisis until the signing of a contract for purchase of the land by the city. The city has set aside $5 million for that purpose. Attending the meeting were Garden School officials, Councilman Daniel Dromm, Assemblyman Michael DenDekker and commuity advocates. Exploring JH Artist at 93

Visited with Jackson Heights Artist Laura M. Schiavina and she shared her work for this "exploring..." slideshow: an incredible, inspiring, smidgen of her prolific life's work. It all began with a fashion course and an industrious talent for drawing and designing blouses which evolved into painting for over 60 years and still creating new works on a daily basis today...

Laura M. Schiavina has lived in Jackson Heights since 1951. Included in the Who’s Who of American Art, her award winning work has been collected and exhibited nationally and internationally, including exhibitions at the Islip Art Museum, NY; Sumner Museum, Washington D.C.; DuPont Gallery, Washington, D.C.; Citicorp Gallery, LIC; Eleftherias Park Art Center, Athens, Greece; National Academy Museum and School of Fine Arts, NY; New York City College of Technology, CUNY; and Ringel Gallery at Purdue University, IN. One of the first female members of the Salmagundi Club, Laura was chosen by Cynthia Maris Dantzic for her book “100 New York Painters,” published in 2006.

Laura is member of N.A.W.A, National League of American Pen Women, National Art League, Jackson Heights Art Club, Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts, and Audubon Artists. Laura came to New York in 1944 from Springfield, MA to become a fashion illustrator, completing evening courses at the Traphagen School of Fashion, while working in business. Deciding to continue in business, she studied fine art weekends, evenings and vacations from the late 1950's through 1980 with artists including Will Barnet, Carl Molno, Joseph Caine and Paul Puzinas.

Plans are in place to showcase Laura's beautiful paintings in Jackson Heights very soon!
